Good news for BlackBerry fans as the company's messenger service - BBM - is now available for devices running Android Gingerbread. BlackBerry released BBM for Android and iOS in 2013. However, at the time, it did not support devices running Android Gingerbread. Earlier in January this year, speculation was rife that BBM will soon make its way to older Android-powered devices that were on Android Gingerbread. At the time, BlackBerry had sent out e-mails seeking beta testers who had Android devices running on Gingerbread to aid the company in testing its BBM app. A few weeks later, towards the end of January, BlackBerry put rumors to rest and revealed that it would soon be bringing the popular messenger service for Android Gingerbread users as well. "We've got some exciting BBM news for Android Gingerbread users - you've been asking and we've heard you loud and clear. We're now pleased to announce that BBM will soon also be available on Android Devices running Gingerbread revealed BlackBerry in an official blog post in January. True to its word, BlackBerry has now launched the BBM service for Android Gingerbread on Tuesday, Feb. 18. "Back in January we told you we were busy cooking up a special release of BBM for Android Gingerbread. Now, we're pleased to share that it's ready and will be available starting today. This means that Android Gingerbread users can start to enjoy the immediacy, privacy and control of BBM to chat and share with friends, family and people they work with," announced BlackBerry's Jeff Gadway, head of product and brand marketing for BBM, via a blog post. For existing BBM users, the release simply means that they can now seek out even more friends they want to connect with via the messenger service. To know which of your friends have joined BBM, users can check out the "Find Friends" feature, which can be found under "Invites" on the bottom left corner of the BBM app. If you own a device running on Android and want BBM, you can download the official BBM app here from the Google Play store. ⓒ 2023 All rights reserved.
